Pakistan Tribune FATEH JANG, April 8:
President General Pervez Musharraf on Saturday laid foundation stone of new Islamabad International Airport in Fateh Jang west of capital city.
The new Islamabad International Airport would be constructed at Tarnol-Fateh Jang road equipped with all facilities of international standard and would be completed in three years costing more than Rs. 24 billion.
President Musharraf while addressing on the occasion said that New Islamabad International Airport would guarantee the development and prosperity of the area and would be a milestone in the history of civil aviation.
He said that all facilities of the international standard would be provided in the airport, adding the civil aviation has accepted a new challenge by launching new airport. The new International Airport would reflect our culture, he added.
The president said that enormous opportunities would be generated after the construction of new airport as Pakistan has central air route.
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz while addressing on the occasion said that new Islamabad International Airport was the old demand of citizens, adding that people of the country would feel proud when the airport would be functional.
He said that all latest facilities would be provided for passengers and air companies, adding that modern facilities and new techniques would be used for the construction of Airport Complex.
The Prime Minister said that the present government has started a number of mega projects. Economy of the country is moving in the right direction, he added.

President Pervez Musharraf on Saturday performed the ground-breaking of a US $400 million modern airport project, saying that it would prove as a step forward to turn Pakistan into a major regional hub for trade, tourism and communication.
The new Islamabad International Airport would be constructed at Tarnol-Fateh Jang road equipped with all facilities of international standard and would be completed in three years costing more than Rs. 24 billion.
The President unveiled the plaque for new a international airport, to be located 30km south-west of Islamabad.
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Defence Minister Rao Sikandar Iqbal, Director General Civil Aviation Authority, Air Marshal Salim Arshad and other senior officials were present on the occasion.
President Musharraf said Pakistan would serve as a communication hub for Central Asia, western China, India and other regional countries and would generate extensive economic activities.
He hoped that the new airport would be one of the best airports in Asia and congratulated the designers and workers on the initiation of this huge project. He urged the Civil Aviation Authority to try to complete the project before the stipulated time of 36 months and said the airport's design should reflect the country's national, cultural and historical heritage.
